We traveled to Puerto Vallarta for a week thanks to some hotel points and a win of some free airline tickets. We feel we saw the best of Puerto Vallarta- great dining, nice beaches, small mountain towns.

We became experts in identifying the correct bus despite multiple manufacturers, different sizes and colors, stopping, not stopping...
We took a harrowing water taxi trip to Yelapa- a small fishing village- worth it for the pictures!
We caught a Mexican naval band concert in downtown Puerto Vallarta- I would take Mexican naval song over Sousa anytime!
The road up to San Sebastian and Mascota- small mountain towns. My able driver (Eric) negotiated Mexican road signs and strange signaling very well and the roads themselves were well maintained.
Beautiful! San Sebastian is at >5,000 ft elevation and pine trees surprised us after driving through canopy forest of the Sierra Madre Occidental mtns.
We then traveled to Mascota, further in the interior of Jalisco, located in a valley between mountains.
Someone, who already has a slightly smaller bladder, was suffering a case of turista and this oreo frapuccino discovered in the middle of Mascota along with a lovely bathroom was a dream come true.

We rented a car a second day to explore beaches north of the bay. Guayabitos Beach: A Mexican family retreat- and lovely wide (finally sort of warm ocean) beach!
Possibly the most unflattering picture of me ever, but I wanted to show the awesome pinapple treat made with chili and salt by a vendor- I had already eaten half the fruit inside!
Sayulita was a charming small town with a small beach- taken over by surfer dudes. We didn't swim but would stay here next time...
Thanks so much to Moms and Pops Watkins for taking care of Georgie during the week and kindly coming to the airport back and forth to pick her up and drop her off!
